Workpackages
MASCOT’s objective is to develop, analyse, and implement generic techniques for future MU-MIMO (multi-user multiple-input multiple-output) wireless systems.
Research ranges from space-time code design and transceiver algorithms in WP1, the development of reference designs of selected algorithms and hardware implementation in WP2 to information-theoretic limits analysed in WP3. Integral activities, namely Dissemination as well as Project Management constitute WPs 4 and 5, respectively.
The work can be summarised as:
WP1 – Space-Time Code Design and Baseband Transceiver Algorithms: Multi-user spacetime
code design, link layer adaptation, baseband transceiver algorithms (WP leader: VUT).
WP2 – VHDL Library of Reference Designs and Testbed Integration: Evaluation and
optimisation of selected algorithms for hardware implementation, development of VHDL
reference designs, testing of selected algorithms and architectures in the ETHZ real-time
MIMO testbed (WP leader: ETHZ).
WP3 – Performance Limits: Information-theoretic performance limits of MU-MIMO systems,
and system design guidelines for cellular networks and ad-hoc mode (WP leader: PoliTo).
WP4 – Dissemination and Exploitation: Coordination of dissemination and exploitation of
MASCOT results (WP leader: FTW).
WP5 – Project Management: Coordination and management of the project as a whole, quality
assurance (WP leader: FTW).
